Emma is a licensed mental health counselor in Virginia specializing in child and adolescent mental health. From early in her career, she developed a passion for promoting positive youth development through systems-level change. Emma has pursued this goal through graduate research focused on enhancing the development of social-emotional learning in K-12 settings, and through hands-on implementation of life skills programming in both volunteer and professional capacities.

While Emma’s professional journey began in the field of education, she continued her career through a clinical pathway, and has experience providing outpatient therapy, parent training, therapeutic day treatment, and group counseling. Emma has worked in K-12 schools, university counseling centers, and private practice, giving her a unique perspective of areas for growth and collaboration in the mental health and education fields. Alongside her position at JMU, Emma maintains a private practice providing therapy to youth and emerging adults. 

In her free time, she is likely staying active outdoors, exploring new coffee shops, reading, and – whenever possible – traveling.
